Scholars of the World Scholar’s Cup, whale hello there!
Sure you’ve seen the official website probably haven't read it all and by the end of the page you're thinking: How on Earth am I going to study this?
With these tips and tricks it’ll be no problemo and let’s get started.
Read the introductory questions of each subject
This will give a bit of background on what the main focus of the syllabus is. The syllabus for this year is about reconstructing the past. In Reimagining the Present, it focuses on how we can re imagine the our environment with the history our world has created to restaurants shaping our view on their cuisine. As to my understanding with the other parts in the theme overview it asks the question: how much of the history do we know is true and accurate from what we know? and what can we do with the new information that we’ve obtained thanks to technology that can help fill in the blanks and reconstruct parts we don’t know.
Read everything, rinse and repeat
And by everything I mean the questions, the articles AND the concluding questions (guiding questions is there is). Most of the questions will be based on the articles linked in the questions, if you want to have a better understanding in the curriculum read ALL of them. This will help you become familiar with the people, names, projects, concepts and idea. This is also the part where Challenge and Bowl will form answers from
Who, Where, What, When, Why and How (Reaction too!)
In WSC they’re going to be mentioning people’s names (from the curriculum) and you gotta be familiar with them. Example: If Ant Saunders were to pick an image which is the girl’s favorite closest representation, what would it be? Ant Saunders sung the song Yellow Hearts but what if there is no image of yellow hearts? Yellow Stars is the answer since the artist mentioned “She put my name with yellow hearts / Her favorite color like the stars”. There will be a lot of Pin Me In The World Map! questions (find the countries and know your geography) and What Would This Person Most Likely Say In This Situation-Thing!
Keep on taking notes
Think you missed a bullet or haven't read the article yet? Go back and study some more especially concluding questions - it has the most. I recommend on downloading Quizlet it helps with memorizing and familiarization of concepts.
Study in School too!
I couldn't remember when but I've reviewed in school and it does help in building the memory of yours. Try chunking or the method of Simonides. Chunking is cutting down information and remembering it piece by piece, while Simonides is picturing a book and knowing the location of the text like “oh this was at the right side or the page” very helpful.
